Testing, Testing is a project
that aims to explore the process of artistic production as research methodology.
Initiated and produced by practice-based Ph.D. researchers in the fine art subject area
at Sheffield Hallam University, the project takes the form of an exhibition at SIA
Gallery, a symposium event, and two publications.
Exhibition
The Testing, Testing exhibition took place at SIA Gallery, Sheffield Hallam University
from 13th August – 1st September 2016. Each exhibiting artist wrote a text outlining the research
context for their
work, and these were compiled into an accompanying publication, Testing, Testing Vol. 1.

Symposium
On 2nd September 2016, a symposium was held in SIA Gallery.
The symposium was a way of opening up the processes,
practices and approaches of the exhibitors to public scrutiny and entering into dialogue about them.
Each of the artists approached this in a different way, some in a 'crit group' format, some with rehearsed readings,
and others with more formal conference presentations and discussions. The 'findings' from the symposium were compiled into a
handmade publication, Testing, Testing Vol. 2.
